Secret Garden BOM 2016

Secret Garden Flimsy
I participated in quite a few of Pat Sloan's challenges and quilt-alongs in 2016! This one, "Secret Garden", spoke to my dirt-under-the-fingernails farming soul.
Each month we received a new 12" block, inspired by a garden Pat had found in her travels.

For this quilt, I used Quilters Dream Green batting - it's made from recycled plastic bottles.  It works up so beautifully - the needle just slides right through, has great definition, doesn't shrink much at all.  Superior Threads "So Fine" on the top, Filtec Bobbin Line in the bobbin.

I did a different design in each block, leaves in the sashing and a bead board border.

Brought this to the cottage and got some great photos ...

For the back, I repeated the star multiple times to get a gigantic star.  How fun is that!
I did find that when I was binding it this spring, the poly batting is *really* warm.

Modern Streak Finish Photos

Modern Streak
It's Canada Day 2017, celebrating Canada's 150th birthday.  We're at the cottage on a rainy day, perfect for catching up blog posts :)

This is such a fun quilt - it was quick to do, loved the fabric collections and had a great time playing with the quilting.  Posted previously the details of the construction and fabrics ...

For this quilt, I used Quilters Dream 100% cotton batting, So Fine thread in the top and Bobbin Line thread in the bobbin.

My first quilt from a new bolt of Quilters Dream - this is *fantastic* batting!

The finished quilt is light and airy and delightful!  Washed up perfectly crinkly and cuddly.

In the darker streaks, quilted u-turns - one streak is horizontal, the next is on a 45* angle - I was hoping for a design that would give some dimension and depth.

In the lighter streaks, played with swirly and feathery fills.

The back was a light, blue/green mottled backing.
