Y'all, I've been multi-guilding! And it is awesome. I joined the Royal City Quilt Guild a bit ago and joined their has a Special Interest Group "12x12", where we make small art quilt pieces that finish around 12" x 12". We have a prompt for inspiration. This prompt was "Water" with Improv method.

A really fun place to make a water-inspired quilt? By the water! On the deck at the cottage.
The method is inspired by @annbrauerquilts method of improvisational lines. I brought scrappy blues, pinks, oranges, greens and a piece of batting, and did this project as a 'quilt as you go'. There definitely could be additions of stitches or beads to glitz it up.
For the facing, I wanted to try a facing method with mitered corners, as detailed by Jenny Hanes (Paper. Sax. Ten). Love it!! Still need to stitch the facing down but it is a beautiful way to finish this wee gem.
This morning I went back outside with this small piece for some dappled sunlight photos, front and back.
I can see lots more exploration with this method! The size of these little projects is really fun to play and experiment.
The Royal City Quilters Guild is a fantastic guild! They are based in Guelph, Ontario and are a mostly virtual guild. They are exquisitely organized and I've felt welcomed from the first meeting with them. There are many special interest groups to join and they have some in-person mingles as well. We're just starting up the new 2025/2026 year and the programming is amazing. If you are looking for a wonderful virtual quilt guild, join us! Let them know I sent you :)
