One Block Wonder - Raindrops Poppies

Do you love One Block Wonders?  They are mystical and magical and magestic.  The One Block Wonder process was pioneered by Maxine Rosenthal, and she has a number of excellent books to inspire you.

This quilt is created from this one fabric, a glorious Free Spirit print from Anna Maria Horner called "Raindrops Poppies" (now out of print).  I absolutely adore the colours - mint, orange, pink, purple, aqua.
The One Block Wonder process has you layer six repeats of the fabric quite precisely, slice a row of the six layers, then slice again into triangles.  These triangles are all the same design, and when you arrange these triangles into hexies, you get beautiful swirly designs.  In the photo above, the hexies are arranged into rows on my design wall, with the rows coming together.
I was interested to see what the poppy stems would look like when hexified, and there are so many interesting bits from these linear elements.
The flower and seed pod elements create some fabulous kaleidoscope designs when hexified.
Loving this texture added with the quilting!
The hexies are framed with a coordinated solid, and the original fabric forms the border.
That texture!
The colours, the shapes, the swirls, the texture, all make my eyes very happy.
So much texture!
For the backing, I chose Robin Pickins Thatched wide back in "Seafoam".
The backing reads as a solid, and the digital design looks amazing!

When this digital design is repeated, it creates a swirling hexie design surrounded by a denser hexie design!
This digital design is from Sweet Dreams Quilting Studio.
The thread for the longarm stitches is Glide "Pistachio".  This quilt is about 70" x 76" and my Innova M28 recorded 214,125 stitches.  That's a lot!  Batting in this quilt is Hobbs 80/20.
