Client Quilt - Vintage Geese

This thing I get to do ... people bring their treasures to be layered and stitched. It makes my heart happy and I'm humbled by the trust of my clients. Some quilt tops are new, some not!  This amazing quilt was pieced by this fellow's Mother in the early 60's.
Above is the start of the quilting, the quilt on the frame, working on the top border.  The green leafy shapes all received leafy inside and outside echo stitching.  Between the echoed leaves, there are randomly angled lines, and pebbles, swirls, feathers and swoops at the outer edge of that border.
The quilt had a very whimsical feel to me, so I went with more whimsy in the quilting.
The sunny blocks have swirly centres and rays extending to the edges of their blocks.
The geese all have feathery fills.  The trees have wood grains, and the red flowers have petals stitched.
The blue sashing between the border and blocks has a simple curly swirl.
The border with its changing features of angled lines and curvy fills, flows around the quilt.
Those geese are just so fun!
Sunny corners are also featured in the goose blocks.
I can imagine the quilter enjoying long winter nights, creating these happy blocks.
Bringing a vintage quilt top to life is such an honour!
The backing is a perfect fit for the era of the vintage quilt!

The quilting thread is Hab 'n Dash Glide "Pearl".  A more traditional white would have been very stark, the warmer tone of this thread softened the quilting and worked well with all of the fabrics.
The batting for this one was Quilters Dream 100% cotton Select.  My Bernina Q24 recorded 289,876 stitches (all hand-guided) in this glorious finish!
