This glorious client quilt is - wait for it - this client's first quilt! She wanted to make a quilt for her daughter's wedding gift, and recruited family and friends who quilt. It is 96" x 120". Clearly this was not her first sewing, but as a first quilt, wowsers!! The quilt pattern is from Deb Tucker's Studio 180 Design.
To quilt this beauty, we had a few discussions of what they liked (feathers and geometric designs) and what they did not like (pebbles). And that they wanted the feature of the quilt to be the fabric, not the quilting, so the quilting is quite subdued. Lots of interest to draw the viewer in for a closer look, but not the star of the show.
Quite formal feathers flow around the creamy border.
The outer border would not show much quilting and received double piano key lines. Those blue chain blocks in the cream border are applique!
The dark blue border has arcs that are braided throughout the border.
All of the blue star block points were quilted the same. The red star block points change with each row, with a variety of geometric designs. The blocks in the rest of the star are all quilted with the same designs - the centres match the corner blocks in the border.
The red star points variations - echoed pointed arcs ...
feathers ...
I don't know what to call these - triangles start at the tips this time rather than the centre ...
Echoed curves and triple echo arcs.
A closer look at the triple arcs.
Two colours of Hab 'n Dash Glide threads were used in this quilt - "Pearl" and "Zaffre". The batting is the beautiful, light, Quilters Dream 100% cotton, Select loft.
Stitch count on this beauty - 387,608. Yup, that is a lot of stitches! Of the 94 quilts I've quilted so far in 2021, the most stitches. The second highest stitch count over the last three years. Custom quilts do tend to have higher stitch counts, and this quilt is really, really big! What I love about the Glide thread / Quilters Dream 100% Cotton combination, is that the quilt is still soft and pliable.
