This fantastic client quilt is a glorious rendition of Robin Picken's "Showering Stars" pattern.
Here is the mock up of the quilting designs that went into the quilt. Each star middle had a different design. The star points were quilted with a variety of geometric and leafy/feathery designs - a different design for each star.
In looking for design elements in the pattern or fabric to carry through to the quilting, one of the things I wanted to highlight were the "arrows" that show up when you focus on the reverse of the streamers showering out of the stars. I quilted "ghost arrows" in the negative space where there were no streamers in the fabric.
I used Hab 'n Dash Glide "Cobalt" thread for the dark areas, and White for the stars and streamers, so the quilting is challenging to see in photos of the front.
The back really tells the story! Here is the leafy design - "On a Line Modern Leaf" was a nice way to bring in the botanical component with a modern twist. The star points on this one had echoed lines and the inner part of the star has continuous curves.
Lots of geometric designs are featured.
This star has arcs in the points, and the patches in the middle were quilted with lines in half of each block.
This star has leafy points and an echoed flower in the middle.
This star has more geometric lines in the points, and the middle has a basket weave design.
