More secret sewing revealed!
How amazing are these!!
These quilts made their debut this week at Quilt Market in Houston!
These amazing pieces are companion quilts to Cosplay dresses. They are the creation of @QuilToniquilts (https://quiltoni.com/) and @CaseyReneeCosplay. (https://caseyreneecosplay.com/)
Here are a few photos of the exhibit from friends who got to see this in person ...
The quilts are made with the same fabrics as the dresses - silks, brocades, as well as regular quilting cotton. 3-D decorations to the quilts were added after the quilting.
The quilts are created with Toni's process of pixelated quilts - using gridded interfacing that result in 1/2" pieces.
I went off book for one of the quilts ... one wee curl escaped the curls in the hair.
One of my littles had quite curly hair when she was little, and one of my mother-in-law's favourite things to say was quoting a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow:
There was a little girl
Who had a little curl
Right in the middle of her forehead;
And when she was good
She was very, very good,
But when she was bad she was horrid.
Full disclosure - she was never horrid!!
Here's the 4th vintage lady ...
Toni brought the quilts and a sample of the creations to see if my machine would even go through all the layers. My Bernina Q24 laughed and said ... bring it!
The hardest bit was this brocade fabric that just frayed and frayed.
To tame it, I added a layer of gold tulle. Worked perfectly!!
Peeps, these are amazing!! The dresses they accompany are absolutely stunning. What an amazing experience to have a small part to play in these pieces of art!
