Mini Swap Delight

I belong to two guilds - one is the London Modern Quilt Guild.  As in many guilds, there are inspiration challenges and lots of interesting activities that you can opt into.  This spring, our guild is doing a mini swap with the Ancaster Modern Quilt Guild.  I signed up, but as there were more signed up from our London Guild than the Ancaster Guild (they are just starting up), there were some swap partners within our own guild.

Often I sit and sew at the same table grouping as my swap partner, so I've been able to see what kinds of fabric and colours she likes.

I had lots of fun making her quilt.  I used Kona's colour of the year - Tiger Lily, and Pantone colour of the year - purple.  She also likes grunge, so the purple is grunge, and the sashing is paper white grunge.

For the design, I graphed out the SKU code for her name, and used the orange/purple in various width strips.  The end strip was wide enough to cut in half and surround the Hella Rad blocks.

She also loves Libs Elliott, and Libs has a block of the month - 'Hella Rad' where the blocks are named for her patrons, so the middle three blocks in the mini are Libs' "Linda" block.  Straight line quilting in Glide "Lava" and "Raven".  The backing is a Tim Holtz print, and the batting is Quilters Dream 100% wool.

At our guild meeting yesterday, completed minis were presented.  For my partner's mini, she had it beautifully wrapped in a triangle design paper, delightful all by itself.  She raided her precious stash of grunge, and paper pieced ... a motorcycle!  Ohhhhh Emmmm Geeeeee!  Squeeeee!  It is absolutely amazing.  A 20" delight of intricate detail.

The motorcycle paper pieced pattern is from "Quilt Art Designs".  Brenda reports that there are 57 sections in this 18" main area, 307 pieces of fabric and she used 21 different fabrics.
