This fun quilt is a Grunge sampler. A client quilt. My first client quilt!
I'm absolutely thrilled to be starting this journey of quilting for others. This client was able to gather a beautiful collection of Moda Basic Gray Grunge fabric, even the white and grey. She put this very fun design together with sixteen-patches in the middle and smaller patches on the outer edge. I love the boxy designs the white makes.
Love the finished back - so much beautiful texture!
Here are some of the tools I used for this one. I have a collection of books that inspire me, including this one by Margaret Solomon Gunn. Rulers used in this quilt include the straight ruler by Jamie Wallen from Quilter's Apothecary, an arc from Linda Hrcka's Quilted Pineapple collection, and a round ruler from The Gadget Girls.
Each of the sixteen patches received a different design. The white areas got echo'd arcs that created a nice illusion of a broken circle. The grey has u-turns. Some of the blocks ...
This photo was taken when the quilt was still on the frame - that one corner did get quilted! |
Swirly inner sashing. The outer border of patches has continuous curves all around. The outer border has wiggly nested triangles.
The client requested the start/stop threads to remain so they could bury them.
Batting is Quilters Dream 100% cotton, thread is Superior Thread's So Fine.
