This magnificent quilt from the talented and artistic hands of @muchlovequilts (or check out her new website), is "Sewcialites II" from a quilt-along through the Fat Quarter Shop.
This quilt is a masterful execution of "modern traditionalism" - lots of negative space, a fabulous mix of solids and prints, variety in scale.
The solids are Kona Black, Metal, Suede and Tan. That Suede, I am totally in love with! The prints are from the collections of Moda Basic Grey "Boudoir" and "Grunge Whisper". I love that I get all of these details when collaborating with Sheila!
Sheila picked the digital design "Double Diamond Loop" for the edge to edge quilting, and it gives fantastic texture.
The smaller blocks in this quilt are a delightful collection of traditional designs.
Against the foil of the larger scale of the print solids, the small blocks really have the space to shine.
The longarm stitching adds another layer of texture to the quilt, softening the vast negative spaces in this quilt and helping move your eye through the quilt to all the elements.
The overall impression for me is soft, gentle elegance.
The backing is a Carolyn Friedlander Widescreen.
The thread was auditioned by spooling it out across the quilt, over the solids and prints - Hab 'n Dash Glide "Sand Dune". This 100" x 100" beauty has Quilters Dream 100% cotton, Select loft batting for its beautiful drape and light feel. My big, beautiful Innova M28 with AutoPilot recorded 196,000 + stitches.
