Client Quilt - Embroidery Sashiko

This thing we do can be so very rewarding.  Quilting, creating, collaborating.
This quilt was created for the maker's grand-niece's graduation.  The quilt is a collection of hand embroidered blocks - creamy background with diagonal sashiko-like stitches in blue.  The centre block has reversed the colours - stitching in cream with blue background.  The outer blue blocks are a sateen blue print with wee gold stars.
The creamy stitched blocks were quilted with freehand continuous curves, to feature the embroidery.  The grid stitching creates starry shapes.  Each of these blocks was bordered with straight line frames stitched.
To quilt the centre panel, I switched to dark blue thread and followed the shapes of the embroidery, and added a few fllurishes.
The plain blue blocks each received a motif "Sultan", one of Karlee Porter's Glam block digital designs.

The backing is a beautiful Ruby Star Society print, with its soft surface and scattered gold stars.
The back is just a gorgeous as the front!
This is the photo of the flimsy (unquilted top) before quilting.  It can be such a transformation the quilting provides.  The very best part of this story was the delight of the client - when she came to pick it up, I had it hanging in all its glory.  She absolutely loved it!

This 67" x 88" quilt was quilted on my big, beautiful Innova M28.  She recorded over 214,000 stitches.
