The quilt making is not for the faint of heart, there are so many hexies! The hexie designs vary for each focus block, creating a fabulous journey for your eyes to travel. The quilter is fairly new to quilting, and I love that she is taking on complex projects!
I had done one of these beauties for a client previously, with custom quilting (check that out here). It is so cool to see how gorgeous an edge to edge can be even on intricate quilts.
We did use double batting - two layers of Hobbs 80/20, for lots of stitch dimension and warmth.
The thread is a contrast to both the top and bottom! Hab 'n Dash Glide "Lagoon" was the colour choice. Even with high contrast areas such as the black background, the thread takes on enough of the fabric colour that the thread colour is not the first thing you see. The first thing that you see is the gorgeous shapes of the piecing.
Even on the backing - Moda Grunge Hits the Spot in Cobalt - the contrasting thread is a subtle effect.
The beautiful spirals of digital design, "Overlapping Crop Circles", softens the hexie shapes of the quilt top.
Hab 'n Dash "Lagoon" thread is a beautiful green/blue tone.
My Bernina Q24 with Qmatic recorded 196,488 stitches in this beauty.
