The quilt is for an extended family member's parents. This family holds a very precious place in my heart.
I had created a quilt for this extraordinary daughter earlier in the year, and I asked her to help me create a quilt for her parents.
She thought it would be fun to use colours from their universities -Appalachian State University (Black and Gold) and North Carolina State University (Wolfpack Red, Black and White, with accent Greys and extended palette Indigo and Flame).
With the focus being on the colours, a modern design with solids seemed a good fit. A few different quilt patterns were considered, and we landed on this one, "Elements", a pattern from Ariga Mahmoudlou for Robert Kaufmann fabrics.
I did add a few colour extensions to the original pattern to upsize it a bit.
I love the stripes and solid colour blocks.
Working with this daughter was so interesting - her confidence in colour and design are amazing!
The backing is a Grey "Thatched" by Robin Pickens for Moda Fabrics. The quilting design, "Synchronicity" from Christy Dillon, shows really well on the backing.
All of these photos are taken after the quilt was washed and dried, so it has that wonderfully crinkled look.
The batting is Quilters Dream 100% Cotton, Select loft. Quilted with Hab 'n Dash Glide White thread, my Bernina Q24 recorded 72,000+ stitches.
