This is "Smooth Sailing"! This fantastic quilt is Libs Elliott's own design and quilt, from her own Tattooed North fabric line. How amazing is this! Soooooo amazing, so very amazing! Here is the flimsy with Libs holding it at Seven Magic Mountains (photo by @megruth) ...
To reflect the quilt name, the background areas have 1/2" waves - one direction in the dark and perpendicular in the light. The whites are quilted in white thread, the darks are quilted in "Slate", a beautiful grey with a hint of blue.
The circles feature a variety of designs - curves, crosshatches, rays, geometrics, lines, echoes, triangles.
One of the features in the fabric, are "sparks" in a beautiful coppery metallic. To tie this into the quilt, there are "bridges" between the white semi-circles in the light background, in Hab 'n Dash Glide "Hazel" - a perfect match to that tone in the fabric.
The back of this quilt is also from Libs own line, one of the gorgeous soft denimy-blue prints.
Here is the collection of tools I used for this quilt ... rulers from some of my favourite quilters - Jamie Wallen (Quilted Apothecary rulers), Linda Hrcka (Quilted Pineapple rulers), Margaret Solomon Gunn (Mainley Quilts of Love "Arabesque" rulers), and some of HandiQuilter's Wave rulers. My trusted Sewline Styla ceramic ball point wash out marker, hera marker.
Threads are from Hab 'n Dash - Glide White, Slate and Hazel, with prewound magnaglide bobbins in light grey and white.
One of the best things about working on this quilt is working with Libs! She is such a real person, full of kindness and creativity. I am honoured and humbled to be able to work with such a creative force.
