Four Corners Quilt

This is "Four Corners", a quilt from the book "Quilts From Every Angle" by Nancy Purvis.
The fabric for the top is the fabulous Art Gallery Fabric from the line "Indie Folk", from Stache Fabrics & Notions - from her early days, before her bricks & mortar presence!

This quilt got its start at a retreat in February 2018, and came out for another session at a second retreat in April 2018.

Sharing the design wall with Karen's blue quilt!

And then it had to wait for me in my 'to be quilted' stack of flimsies.
I love so many things about this quilt - the colours, the texture of the fabric.  The fabulous geometric design.
We've been at the Four Corners (where Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico meet) a couple of times, both times on our motorcycles.  This trip was in the summer of 2009.
Our rides for this trip - 2 x Honda Gold Wings; one a 2008 model, the other a 2003. Beads on the seats to help dissipate some of the heat - it was a really, really hot trip.
Also visited on this trip - Mesa Verda National Park, with a hike to one of the cliff dwellings.  Amazing, spiritual experience.

The digital design I selected for this quilt is a Southwest Edge to Edge designed by Wasach Quilting.  It features a Kokopelli, Spirit Bear, Eagle, Morning Star and Crossed Arrows.

Yes, I realize that the designs are hard to see in the quilt.  This was intentional.  Knowing it would not be highly visible, was a nod to the challenges faced by First Nations people.  It adds a layer of dimension, and when you get up close to see and touch the design, you see its beauty and complexity.
For the back - Lava Lamps!  I liked the colours that seemed a good fit for the Indie Folk.  And yes, it is still hard to see the quilting design - you really do have to make an effort to "see" the beauty in the quilting.
I know that my life has been full of the privilege of being white.  Seeing the systemic disadvantages of our first nations and people of colour in our world, is similarly hard to see.  I am in no way professing to not have racist or bigoted thoughts, only that I'm trying to see, to learn, to be aware.
Final details on the quilt - the batting in this one is Hobbs 80% cotton / 20% wool.  The quilting thread is Hab 'n Dash Glide "Mango".  The stitch count for this quilt - just shy of 140,000 stitches.
