Baby Gems

New baby news is the best news of all, isn't it??!!

A friend announced that his family is welcoming in a new bundle of joy into their family soon.  I am sooooo happy for them!  They will be amazing parents.

This wee quilt is a modern collection of prints, in pink and grey with a little pop of teal.  There is one very special fabric in this quilt, fancy shirts, that was part of the London Modern Quilt Guild sampler that was curated by one of our guild members.

The technique is "Half Rectangle Triangles", similar to the Half Square Triangle, however instead of starting with squares you use rectangles.  The method was demonstrated as part of the video series in the Modern Quilt Guild.

The gems were quilted with echoed angles, and the grey path between the gems has ribbon candy, wishbones, and a variety of feathers.  The outer border (a luscious pink grunge!) is quilted with piano keys.

My husband was my quilt holder on this cold, blustery day.    The back is a really fun Henry Glass ombre circles print, and the batting is Hobbs 100% cotton.  Pink Glide thread on the top and bobbin.

To complete the gift package, one of my all-time favourite books that I read with joy with my kids, Dennis Lee's "Alligator Pie".  Every child should have some Alligator Pie poetry, and most especially, an introduction to Ookpiks!
