Cut Up New House Celebration

Cut Up
At the "Pieces of Magic" Quilt Show held by the Oxford Quilters' Guild this May, Sew Sisters' booth had a beautiful layer cake of Joel Dewberry's "Modernist" made up into a fast and fun design, "The Cut Up".  It's a post-card sized laminated card from Pieced Tree Designs.  One layer cake and sashing, fun and done!

My son has been working on buying his first house, in this crazy real estate market we're currently in. Houses listed Thursday sell by Saturday for over asking.  Bidding wars.  As stressful as it always is to conduct a real estate transaction, it is even more so, the first time.  They found a few they liked, some they loved, and bid on but didn't get.  The stars aligned one day and they found another house they loved, made an offer, success!  Two weeks between offer and closing.  Yesterday was moving day.

Some of the colours in the new house are in the same colourway as this lovely little layer cake!  So apparently it was meant to be - I finished up the quilting (simple wavy, organic lines) and had the perfect aqua grunge fabric in my stash for the binding.  We are on the road quite a bit to visit my MIL who broke her hip in May and is still in the hospital, so the hand finish on the binding was done in a couple of trips.

Now at its new home, ready for snuggling!
