Turnabout Patchwork - X's and O's

Squee!!  Allow me to introduce you to "X's and O's".

This quilt is one of the quilts from Teresa Mairal Barreu's new book, "Turnabout Patchwork".  You can see her announcement post here.  If you're looking for the book to purchase, Teresa has a link on that page.

The premise for Teresa's book is making a block, slicing it up, and turning or repositioning the pieces to make a completely different block (sometimes two smaller blocks) to yield endless quilt tops.

Her book is well done, with excellent instructions and illustrations.  Lots of inspiration!

There is a giveaway ... be sure to check out this full post for details!

I adore working with stripes, so the projects I selected to work with for the Blog Hop use striped fabrics really effectively.

The fabrics for this quilt are from Stache Fabric & Notions, they are some gorgeous Art Gallery Fabrics.  The variations in the stripe produced some really lovely different quilt blocks.
First step - starch!!  Lots of starch.  This technique has all bias edges, and starch really helps control all those edges.  Teresa has great info on how to handle all these bias edges in her book.

Putting two squares together and sewing around the outside, this is step two ...
Press the HST's open and trimming up with my Bloc_Loc ruler - love all the trimmings, and the perfectly square block to work with.
The basic block ...
Chain piecing ...
Four blocks to make one design block ...
On the design wall ...
On the frame ... ruler work for this one!
Ta-done!
Lots of variations in the blocks from that uneven stripe ...

For the back, Grunge "Hits the Spot" and the lovely straight quilting lines.

The batting is Quilters Dream 100% Cotton, and the thread is Hab 'n Dash Glide.  My Bernina Q24 calculated 118,000|+ stitches in the quilting.  Of course the binding is bias cut from those glorious stripes!

The giveaway!  There are three items to win (one item per winner - 3 winners!):
Teresa is generously giving away one of the patterns from her Etsy shop and a PDF copy of her book "Turnabout Patchwork".
Michealanne from Stache Fabrics & Notions is graciously offering a $25 gift certificate to her shop.  How awesome is that!

How to enter my giveaway?  Leave a comment here on the blog, on my Quilting Biker Facebook page or Instagram (@quiltingbiker), and I'll have a random selection for winners after the end of the blog hop - on Feb 10th.
